About Me;

Hey, I’m Brice Rawlyk. I’ve been working with plants for nearly a decade now, my career began shortly after graduating from a horticulture diploma program. My path towards landscape horticulture, much like the growth of a clematis, or wild grape vine was non-linear and varied. I initially started working in greenhouses in Saskatchewan and made the move to British Columbia, for broader career opportunities and better climes nearly 7 years ago, I spent a few years living and working in agricultural contexts in the Southern Interior, the majority of which was spent working in vineyards, charting the cycle from bud-burst through harvest to late-winter pruning. I have kept vegetable gardens most summers since moving to BC and this has opened my eyes to the range of soil conditions in British Columbia, the importance of soil nutrients and composition, and how and when we deliver water to our crops.

My time as a Landscape-Horticulturist really began when I moved to Victoria, I have always felt deeply moved by the natural world, whether it be a man-made landscape or wild spaces, my romanticism found its match when I moved to this city. for over 5 years I have worked in residential and commercial landscapes, weeding, planting, mulching, planting and pruning; initially for other businesses and more recently as a sole-proprietor/owner of The Gnome Gardening Service. Horticulture is more than a job for me, it is a passion, a vocation and I learn each day through lived experience, through watching and listening, and through continued scholastic education about this unique environment off the West Coast of Canada. I look forward to working with you to make your garden a truly beautiful and productive space!
